eLDI Asia-2011 first face-to-face workshop held in San Fernando, Philippines

Image“A borderless world!” was how the workshop was described by the 19 participants from India, Mongolia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and St. Vincent and Grenadines who came together for the 1st face-to-face workshop of the eLearning and Development Implementation (eLDI) Asia 2011. The Civil Service Commission hosted the event for the first time in their Regional office in San Fernando City,Pampanga on 11-15 April 2011.

Six mongolian participants, Ts.Bolormaa, head of Academic Affairs Office of School of Economic Studies NUM, B.Uugangerel, lecturer of School of Economic Studies NUM , L.Bayar-Erdene, lecturer of Department of Academic Policy and Coordination, MUST, N.Munkhtsetseg, lecturer of School of Mathematics and Computer Science, NUM, T.Uranchimeg, lecturer of Power Engineering School, MUST, S.Garamkhand, lecturer of Technical Education of Mongolia-Korean Technical College successfully participated in the first face-to-face workshop.

The workshop is the start of an eight-month blended elearning program conducted through the partnership between the UP Open University (UPOU) and the German International Cooperation (GIZ). The workshop enabled the participants to learn more about elearning and the needs of their institutions, the Global Campus 21 and the use of Free and Open Source Software. Prof. Juvy Lizette Gervacio of the UPOU Faculty of Management and Development Studies coordinated and facilitated the workshop together with Prof. Evelyn Laurito of the University of Santo Tomas. They were joined by eLDI-trained facilitators from the CSC.

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Maria Fe V. Mendoza delivered the welcome address together with San Fernando Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and CSC Commissioner Mary Ann Fernandez Mendoza. CSC Chair Francisco T. Duque III graced the closing program and mentioned that the Commission would explore the use of elearning to build the capacities of the public servants.
